The Sinfonietta provides an opportunity for musicians of all ages and backgrounds to regularly rehearse, perform and share beautiful music together. Our goal is to strive for the best one can give, to listen to others, to mix one's voice with the whole in order to perform together at a high artistic and expressive level some of the best music mankind has to offer.
While the Sinfonietta is dedicated to performing arrangements of lesser-known works of well-known composers that focus on beauty, color, and expressive interpretation, the focus is on finding pieces that are challenging for the student, yet accessible to everyone. Overcoming these challenges is, of course, vital to a musician’s growth; sharing one's successes with an audience, all the while presenting a beautiful piece of music, is an invaluable and enriching experience for all.
The Sinfonietta, founded and directed by pianist and composer Mark Ferguson, is a community chamber orchestra located in Wilton, New Hampshire. Founded in 2005 by Mr. Ferguson, the ensemble's members include talented high school and middle school students from Southern New Hampshire. The Sinfonietta also invites private music teachers and music teachers in schools to play regularly, or as soloists, with the group, thereby creating a venue where musicians of varied ages and backgrounds can share their talents with the community.
Large enough to regularly perform symphonic works and concertos of the Masters, from Baroque to Modern times, yet small enough to conserve the intimacy of a chamber music atmosphere -- whereby players are really heard and get as much attention as they need and deserve -- the Sinfonietta provides the performer and listener alike with an enjoyable, non-intimidating orchestral experience.
The Sinfonietta normally presents three performances a year. High Mowing School serves as a rehearsal location for the Sinfonietta and has also hosted most of the group's concerts.
